Historical Society
You can
be a part of the Society in three different ways: become a member,
make a donation or serve as a volunteer. Each way is rewarding and
you don’t have to limit yourself to just one way. You can do one,
two or all three.
Make a donation – You can make
a difference
The Society
has a wish list and you can help us reach our goals by donating
items to us or by sending us a contribution toward the items in
order for us to meet our need.
Items on our wish list:
Donate historical Rutland
materials that we can add to our collection. If you don’t want to
part with the original items consider letting us make copies. We look
for materials such as school yearbooks, town reports, annual reports
(Proctor, West Rutland, Rutland Town and Rutland City), Rutland area
diaries, old Rutland area telephone books, family photo albums, old
Rutland area newspapers, postcards, old photos, Rutland area genealogies,
and anything that has to do with Rutland.
Help us to
purchase additions to our collections of reference materials. This
includes digital and microfilmed material such as city and town directories
and annual reports, census records, Rutland Herald newspapers,
other area newspapers, and cemetery records. Sufficient funds to allow
us to have other items microfilmed and/or recorded on CDs.
Help us to
purchase a new computer and appropriate software to allow us to make
our computer catalog available to the public to search for items in
our collections. We have been cataloging our collections on computer
for over two years and have roughly 15% of our collections cataloged.
Additional funds would also allow us to purchase a microfilm reader/printer.
Help us to
purchase preservation and storage materials. This includes archival
storage boxes and supplies to store and preserve our collection of
glass plates, artifacts, photographs, manuscripts, etc. This is a
continuing need as we expand our collections.
An underground
storage facility is in our long-range plan for expansion. This would
be located under our east parking area and would require temperature
and humidity control equipment and a small elevator. Consider making
our long-range plan a part of your long-range gift-giving plan.
Memorial Gifts
in any amount will be gratefully accepted.
Become a Benefactor.
Remember us in your will. No donation is too large or too small. We
will put the money to good use as outlined above. Also consider a
donation of stock or other property.
